★Description★
Mud gas separator, also called poor boy degasser, gas buster or liquid gas separator, is the degassing equipment located before the vacuum degasser to separate out free gas bubbles like H2S and CO2 ≥φ3mm from the drilling fluid to ensure the drilling fluid safe before exposed to the atmosphere and to prevent kick off situation. These large bubbles are expansive gas in drilling fluid, which can lead to well kick and even spray out of the drill plate.
★Structure★
A mud gas separator usually consists of supporting legs/frame, vessel assembly, mud inlet and outlet pipeline, gas vent line, and observation port. In which, vessel assembly is the key part to remove big bubbles enveloped or entrapped in the liquid.
★Working Principle★
When the drilling mud returns back to the elevated flume and flow into the mud gas separator vessel through the inlet pipeline, it falls onto the baffles designed to separate gas and mud by colliding, increasing exposed surface area, flowing downward and creating a turbulent state. The free gas then is moved into the flare line to reduce the threat of toxic and hazardous gases and the mud then discharged to the shale shaker for solids separation.

Mud gas separator is usually named according to the vessel diameter. For example, MGS800 means the vessel diameter is 800mm.

Mud gas separator is usually nude packing. We will use wood block which is not harm to the equipment surface under the equipment as support to ensure it not contact with the truck floor and keep the equipment in the same level when layed down.
